Paris Fashion Week 2022
During the Paris Fashion Week 2022, some of the biggest designers in the world will be in town. There are many names to consider, including Miuccia Prada, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf and Acne Studios. Each of these designers will show off their latest collection, giving fashion enthusiasts a preview of what to expect in the coming year.
Viktor & Rolf
Founded by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the Dutch fashion house Viktor & Rolf has challenged preconceptions of the fashion industry. Their early work featured an exaggerated shoulderline and distorted silhouette. The pair met while studying fashion at the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design. They later relocated to Paris.
They began to work together in 1992. They have since created ready-to-wear collections and haute couture. They have also collaborated with L’Oreal to create the Flowerbomb perfume. In 2006, they designed a wedding dress for H&M.
During Paris Fashion Week, they presented the spring ’22 couture collection. Viktor & Rolf are famous for their extravagant and theatrical runways. This season, the designers used a monochromatic palette, animal skin patterns, primitive knotted constructions, and classic couture styles.
Acne Studios
SS23 saw the debut of the brand’s ‘AS’ monogram, a minimalist jacquard print available in two new shapes. The brand’s denim heritage was on display to a fashion-savvy audience. A selection of menswear looks was also featured, including a post-Talking Heads boxy blazer in overdyed leather and rib-kit socks over shoes.
Acne’s Stockholm headquarters are awash with textures. Sunken fireplaces, hand-carved cafeteria seating, and glossy leather are just a few examples.
For Acne’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, the brand explored an emotional patchwork theme. Pieces were fashioned out of foam, denim, and leather and were paired with a variety of contemporary silhouettes.
This collection was presented during Paris Fashion Week, and featured a whimsical narrative-driven set created by Back of the House. A marital bed in pink satin sheets and shell-encrusted candelabras gave the venue a fairytale quality.
Balenciaga
During Paris Fashion Week, Balenciaga unveiled its Spring 2023 collection, a joint project with Spanish artist Santiago Sierra. The collection was inspired by a building site. The muddy catwalk was a fitting metaphor for the collection’s theme.
Balenciaga’s logo waistbands were worn with dirty sweatshirts and matching shorts. The show also sparked controversy when an employee at the presentation lost his wallet. The beaten-up wallet contained an ID card of a longtime Balenciaga employee. It was also filled with receipts.
The collection is a multi-layered approach that will play well in China. It also includes new pieces that evoke a defiant feeling. Guests also wore new pieces that appeared as protective armor.
The collection was a nod to the power of black. The oversized bomber jackets were an updated version of Cristobal Balenciaga’s egg shapes. It also includes a few floral patterned dresses with matching gloves.
Miuccia Prada
Throughout the past season, Miuccia Prada at Paris Fashion Week 2022 has opened her runways to more than just traditional fashion. She has collaborated with Chinese artist Shuang Li on a video installation and a set of ethereal poems. And she has surrounded herself with a circle of friends and friends of friends.
Prada has always been an enthusiast of contemporary art, and the show this season was no exception. Li’s work encompasses sculpture, performance and moving image installations. She also screened the short films of international female filmmakers.
The Prada spring/summer 2023 show began with a sharp grey palette. It featured clean silhouettes and transparent materials. Its scenography was designed by Philippe Parreno, who created a red “monster-flower” at the center of the show.
Stella McCartney
Earlier this month, Stella McCartney’s Spring Summer 2023 Womenswear Collection made its debut at Paris Fashion Week. The collection was inspired by Yoshitomo Nara, an iconic Japanese contemporary artist.
Stella McCartney’s designs featured a variety of organic materials such as washed organic cotton, regenerative NATIVA wool and recycled nylon. The brand also introduced a vegan skincare line. The bags are made from an alternative to animal leather, using grape-based materials.
The collection featured pieces with draped hems, bubble hems and cape effects. It was a very artful collection. Among the designs were dresses with bias-cut hems, dresses with sculptural necklines and ultra-light parachute parkas.
Stella McCartney also introduced a new t-shirt made from regenerative cotton. The collection also featured an assortment of vegan alternatives to leather, such as S-Wave shoulder bags made from grape-based materials.
